The Dead of Winter

The time in between Christmas and March is perhaps the coldest and darkest time in Silicon valley North. One industry leader said that this time of the year is one of the reasons that we actually get things done. It’s so cold and dark that people focus on work to distract themselves from the fact that it’s just plain ugly outside.

It’s the time of year when colds and flu’s are spread between friends and there is a cough for every occasion. If you listen closely, I bet you will hear a cough every few minutes in your office. Think of this time as a time when you strengthen your immune system by exposing it to all kinds of new bugs.

So where am I going with this? Well, Spring is a really special time of year when we breathe a sign of relief, we shed the winter gear and wade through water. Spring would not be as special, if we didn’t have the dead of winter first. It was -10 today and I actually felt warm. Funny how a few weeks of -30 will do that to you.

The bottom line is “Hang in there” spring is on its way. The days are getting longer, it’s not dark when you leave work, get out an enjoy winterlude, go skiing or boarding and skate on the canal. All of those things will be gone 4 to 5 weeks from now.
