Arena One and Two

Screen Shot 2014-01-07 at 8.10.14 AM Screen Shot 2014-01-07 at 8.11.10 AMFinished both these books over the weekend and last night. They are in the same vein as the hunger games in that they are post apocalyptic USA with groups of teens trying to survive.

My son pointed out to me the other day that he was disappointed with a series he was reading because all of the adults were scheming people with little to no moral fiber. It seems that most authors feel that people are basically bad and only civilization keeps us from letting our dark sides rule (Lord of the flies). This series is no different in that regard. I am two books into the trilogy and have yet to read about a decent adult.

I don’t want to seem completely negative, the series has been action packed and has kept me entertained. I will be reading the third book and hopefully it will not destroy the story like the last book of the series by Veronica Roth (Allegiant). Why an author would end a series leaving the reading feeling bad is beyond me. That certainly does not fall into my description of entertainment.

These books do borrow a lot from the hunger games series, so be prepared to overlook the obvious parallels and enjoy the story.
