If you pay attention to your environment you sometimes notice things that you didn’t expect. I have started to notice that I am being treated different and I suspect that it’s because the work force is getting younger. I don’t particularly feel out of place, but I noticed that people let me off the elevator first. People have started holding the door open for me and more people call me sir.
It’s kind of nice really that the younger generation still respects those who came before. I’m not saying that the respect goes much deeper than the surface, but I’ll take what I can get. I celebrated my first senior’s discount this year at a restaurant in Oklahoma city and I understand that shoppers drug has a seniors day for people 55 and over.
Some of the people I work with have asked me how I feel about the special treatment and my response is generally that it’s great. If I get something for less, I’m good with that.
