Happiness and productivity

I saw an interesting TED talk yesterday that focused on happiness and productivity.

I watched it twice because the speaker had jammed so much information into his allotted time that it was hard to get it all the first time. This is perhaps one of the most interesting TED talks that I have ever watched and I’m sure it appliesĀ  to many of you in the same way it applies to me.

Shawn summarizes his approach to helping people with productivity and happiness at the end of the talk. His approach to effecting change starts with:

  1. Three Gratitude’s
  2. Journaling
  3. Exercise
  4. Meditation
  5. Random acts of kindness

When working with companies Shawn claims that he can get people to think differently in 21 days. The first bullet refers to writing down three things that you are grateful for. Journaling refers to writing down one positive thing that has happened to you in the last 24 hours. Exercise teaches the brain that behaviour matters and Meditation allows the brain to get over the cultural ADHD that we have been creating. The last point refers to opening up your inbox and replying with at least one positive response every day.

Checkout the video it really is good…

Fantastic 12min video! Much of what is said in condensed format and delivered perfectly and with humour, I had come across in some recent reading (e.g. the book “Mindfulness”. Really interesting approach and incredibly useful. Thanks!
